Cape Flattery to Lizard Island

We had a nice sail from Cape Flattery to Lizard Island and anchored up with a few other yachts in Watson’s Bay. As we dropped the anchor a small Lemon Shark swam around us and checked us out. We jumped into the water to check the anchor and there were lots of huge fish enjoying the shadow of the boat. We dived on the anchor and decided to shift the yacht to avoid any damage to the reef. Lizard Island was our last opportunity to swim. We planned on swimming, snorkeling, topping up the water, picking up Kasha who was flying in to join the crew and generally enjoying a day off.

Andy and I set out to find the water supply. It was an old hand pump in the wetlands of the island. I filled the primer and did a couple of pumps and frogs went everywhere, the pump was full of frogs. We then went for a walk and met a nice couple who were on a weekend away at the resort. They told us about the clam garden in front of where we were standing, plans were made to snorkel it the next morning. We watched the sun set over the ocean in the West, an unusual occurrence on the East Coast, said our goodbyes and headed for the yacht.

The next morning we snorkeled over to the clam gardens, what a magic reef it was, lots of fish life and giant clams. Keep your eyes peeled for video’s to be pasted at a later date.

With the water topped up it was time to head toward Thursday Island, our next water and fuel stop.
