Day 1 of the Adventures Morton Bay to Double Island

mark | April 30, 2018

Huge day today we finally departed for out trip to Perth at 9:30 am Sunday morning. The weather was perfect running downwind with 18 knots of breeze. This soon cranked up to 30 knots. With a big swell running it was interesting sailing to say the least. During the week I had purchased some heavy duty fishing gear and it surprisingly pays off on day 1 with a 40kg+ yellow fin tuna. It took a team effort to reel it in and bring it on board. Unfortunately we only had the energy to fillet half of the beast and returned the rest to the ocean for recycling. We took turns on watch trying to get some sleep however having to hold on tight to the bed didn’t allow any sleep. We arrived at Double Island at about 11:30pm and anchored in a very rolly anchorage and all headed for our bunks.
