Night Island to Cape Grenville

mark | June 6, 2018

A nice 83 nautical mile sail. We stick to the shipping routes to avoid the numerous reefs, this means keeping a lookout for ships, the easiest way is using AIS. The shipping routes are quite busy and we pass several ships daily. The Trinity Bay services Thursday Island and Seisia on Cape York twice a week so they pass a few times as we sail north. This is the only ship that calls up and asks if it is OK if they pass. You cannot be guaranteed right of way due to tight shipping lanes and high volumes of traffic so a good lookout is needed.
